Where do we start? An open day that was up there with one of the best!
Dan & Danny Somers and their Families opened their farm, outside Arklow, Co. Wicklow to Montbeliarde breeders, neighbours, sceptics and curious on lookers on the 6th September. The weather was perfect, for a change. The farm was pristine and the stock were a credit to all their hard work. Years of breeding with montbeliardes has produced an animal that suits their farm.
A crowd in excess of 130 people gathered to hear and see what the breed had to offer. They came from the North, South, East and West and even from the U.K. On the day I spoke to guys who came to ‘have a look’. I caught up with them after they saw the cows, the milk recordings and the calf sale prices achieved by the Somers’s. They said ‘a sure we’ll try cross breeding a few’ now to me that’s progress! We have received very positive reviews from the day.

To our officers – Linda our P.R.O. who organised all the literature, the display photos and signage. Merchandise, flyers and a lot more besides.
Alan our Treasurer who helped in so many ways up to and on the day itself, and finally our Chairman Kenny who welcomed everyone and kicked off what was a very enjoyable and fruitful day.
